Behind the Lens: A Night of Italian Masters (and Low-Light Hustle)

I recently had the chance to spend an evening with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic for their Masters of Music: Italy show, and man, it was such a great night. Usually, I’m used to the controlled chaos of a shoot, but there’s something different about the energy when you’ve got a world-class talent like Fei-Fei hitting the keys.

Capturing the Keys Fei-Fei is a powerhouse. Watching her take on Verdi and Respighi was incredible, but from a photography standpoint, it was a fun challenge. Concert halls aren't exactly known for their "bright, airy" lighting. I sometimes find myself working with some serious low-light conditions while trying to catch the vivid colors of the stage and the sheer intensity of Oklahoma city Philharmonic performances. There’s a specific kind of "elegant beauty" in the way a pianist like Fei-Fei moves, and I’m stoked with how the shots turned out despite the dim room.

The Conductor's Circle: One of the coolest parts of the night happened off-stage in the "Conductor's Circle." It’s this small, intimate event space where donors that help the OKC Philharmonic afford to bring these amazing events and music hang out before the show and during intermission. Honestly, these are some of my favorite moments to shoot. It’s all about the human connections—the genuine smiling faces, the animated conversations, and that buzz of excitement you only get during a live performance. It’s a tight space, but capturing those candid moments of people actually enjoying the community we’ve got here in OKC is what makes the job worth it.

Looking for an OKC Photographer? Whether it’s the high-stakes energy of a live performance or the personal moments of a wedding, I’m all about capturing the vibe of the room. If you’re looking for an OKC based event photographer for your next conference, wedding, or event here in Oklahoma City, just shoot me a message and make sure to capture what makes your event special.
